When it comes to bed bugs, many people can't identify them, do not know where they came from, and do not understand how their home became infested. Some people will do research before calling the professionals while others simply call the professionals from the beginning. We have compiled some helpful information on bed bugs to help you learn what you should and should not do even before you have detected them in your home.
Don'ts
Don’t buy used furniture.
Unless you just are absolutely sure the person you are purchasing the used furniture from did not have bed bugs, don’t buy it. If buying used furniture is your only option, inspect it thoroughly first before bringing it into your home. It’s not worth taking the risk of bringing a bed bug infestation into your home if you can prevent it?
Don’t have furniture delivered to your home.
Furniture delivery trucks will deliver furniture, but they also haul away old furniture as well. If there are bed bugs in the delivery truck from a piece of old furniture, and they put your brand new furniture in, it’s very likely that your new furniture will be infested before it even gets into your home. Don’t take that chance! Pick up the furniture yourself from the store or warehouse.
Don’t visit other people’s homes if you have an active bed bug infestation.
If you know you have an active infestation, it’s best that you don’t take the bed bugs to a friend/relative. Bed bugs are notorious hitchhikers and can travel with you without you knowing it. You could easily end up infesting your friend or relative’s home without realizing it.
Don’t use sprays, foggers, or any other chemicals.
The chemicals that you can easily purchase simply do not work. And when you use an over the counter chemical, you actually risk making the problem worse. Using chemicals will cause the infestation to spread throughout the home more quickly and can force the bed bugs deeper into cracks and crevices. But don’t worry! Bed Bugs Inc will get rid of them for you!
Do's
Do call a professional!
As soon as you see the first sign of a bed bug infestation you should call a professional like the ones at Bed Bugs Inc. A female bed bug will lay 3-5 eggs per day of her life. Since that is the case, it won’t take long for an infestation to begin growing exponentially. So, the sooner you call, the easier it will be to eliminate the infestation with our heat treatment!
Do have the whole home treated at once.
Even if the bed bugs appear to only be in one room, they are likely hiding in other rooms as well. Treating just one room at a time will only cause the bed bugs to move into another area that is not being treated, creating a never ending cycle. It is always the most effective to treat the whole home at once.
Do work diligently to prevent a future infestation.
Once the bed bugs have been eliminated from their home, most people think that’s all that has to be done. Preventing a re-infestation is every bit as important as eliminating them in the first place. After we treat your home you should diligently follow our recommendations to prevent a new infestation. Ask us about our prevention tips when you call to schedule your appointment.
